Conflict Timber Defined by PEFC and FSC
On March 4, 2022, the Board of PEFC International (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) clarified that timber originating from Russia and Belarus is now designated as ‘conflict timber’ and therefore cannot be used in PEFC-certified products. . The clarification is based on the March 2, 2022 UN General Assembly Resolution and was approved during PEFC’s11th Emergency Special Session, to safeguard the integrity of PEFC chain of custody certification. This clarification is initially valid for six months. We are actively monitoring the situation and will publish any significant updates.
