Organizers Consider Location Change for Forest Products EXPO 2023

November 05, 2021

After a successful show in August of this year, SFPA Staff and the EXPO Advisory Committee are already hard at work planning the Forest Products Machinery and Equipment Exposition (EXPO) 2023. The first order of business? Determining where the show will take place.

The planning and execution of EXPO is truly a labor of love for SFPA’sstaff, and they take the exhibitor and attendee experience into account throughout the planning process. Exit surveys from EXPO 2021 indicated that EXPO participants are very much ready for a change of location, and so the search has begun.

A Request for Proposal was distributed to 15 venues in 12 cities across the U.S. Southeast, and 10 proposals were received. Staff has been hard at work reviewing proposals, and while the field has narrowed, a final decision on the location of EXPO 2023 has not yet been made. Beyond the capacity of each venue to accommodate the technical needs of the show, the committee is also considering how each proposed location would enhance the EXPO experience. The committee wants to ensure that everybody enjoys their time EXPO both on and off the show floor, so the committee is also examining the dining, entertainment, and attractions offered by each city in the running. The committee expects to have a final decision before the end of the year. Although exact dates for EXPO 2023 are not known, only proposed dates in mid-to-late-Summer 2023 are being considered. Exhibit space is set to go on sale in Spring 2022, and attendee registration will open several months before the show takes place.

Produced and conducted by SFPA every two years since 1950, EXPO includes many of the biggest names in the business displaying everything from commercial and portable sawmill machinery to materials handling equipment, attracting key representatives from the nation’s largest wood products manufacturers. EXPO provides a space for both hardwood and softwood sawmillers to gather, celebrate new technology, network, and learn about the industry’s latest products. The biennial trade show has consistently been held in Atlanta at the Georgia World Congress Center since 1993.

You can be among the first to be notified when a location for EXPO 2023 has been announced by signing up for the EXPO email list.
