Mid-Year Reflection Shows Promise and Growth
We’ve had a productive first half of the year at the Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA). Our plans for hosting the Forest Products Machinery & Equipment EXPO (EXPO) in Nashville in August 2023 are well underway with space for exhibitors filling up quickly. Already, more than half of the exhibit hall floor plan has been reserved – outpacing exhibit space sales from previous EXPOs; only confirming that Nashville is a welcomed change.
Domestically, SFPA forged new connections and promoted Southern Pine at the NAHB International Builders’ Show® (IBS), Journal of Light Construction (JLC) and AIA Conference on Architecture, and we’re strengthening our position as a trusted information resource for Southern Pine lumber. Continuing promotional efforts throughout the global pandemic, SFPA’s international program supported traditional SYP export markets and is exploring new opportunities with renewed USDA FAS funding. We also continue to to work closely with the Softwood Lumber Board (SLB), who’s mission to increase demand for softwood lumber products in the United States is closely aligned with advancing the SYP industry.
SFPA has successfully completed both an internal audit and extensive USDA FAS compliance review, examining each reimbursement claim, expense report, and activity conducted with program funding (FMD, ATP, EMP, MAP) since March 2018. More than 16,000 pages of documents were digitized and provided to the compliance review team. While the final report has not yet been prepared, we’re happy to report the review resulted in “no findings” and that the review team noted SFPA’s thoughtful claim organization, processing procedures, and exceptional policy compliance. The final report is expected by November 2022.
As you prepare to celebrate the 4th of July with family and friends, know that the SFPA team appreciates your continued interest in and support of our organization. For hundreds of years, the American lumber industry has represented growth and prosperity. SFPA is proud to be continually strengthening the U.S. economy by promoting a sustainably-managed American natural resource. From boats used during D-Day to framing homes that make the American Dream possible, SYP is a living testament to the entire industry’s hard work and dedication to ensuring a stable supply of lumber for our nation.
We’ve accomplished so much in 2022 thus far, and we’re looking forward to all we’ll do together during the second half of the year.
