AWC Membership Growing The American Wood Council now has 54 members, AWC’s Bob Glowinski reported in a recent newsletter. The group’s goal is to achieve 100% participation by the wood products industry. “SFPA is a long-time participant in AWC activities, and we plan to continue that role as AWC broadens its efforts on behalf of the wood products industry,” said SFPA President Digges Morgan.
AWC's mission is to increase the use of wood by assuring the broad regulatory acceptance of wood products, developing design tools and guidelines for wood construction, and influencing the development of public policies affecting the use of wood products. SFPA is primarily represented with AWC by Cathy Kaake, senior director of engineered and framing markets. Cathy has served on a number of AWC committees over the years and attends AWC’s annual technical committee meetings. She also represents SFPA in AWC’s Wood Industry Code Cooperative, a group monitoring and commenting on proposed revisions to the 2009 International Codes, including the building, residential and fires codes.
For more information on SFPA’s participation, contact Cathy at 504/443-4464, ext. 213, or by e-mail at ckaake@sfpa.org. |
