SP Featured at Delhiwood 2017

This was the fifth year American Softwoods (AMSO) exhibited at Delhiwood at the India Expo Center and Mart, Greater Noida, in Delhi, India. Eight U.S.-based softwood exporters and a member of Oregon State University attended the show under the banner of the American Softwoods Pavilion. Show sponsors stated that over 25,000 visitors toured the displays of 474 exhibitors (239 from India/235 from overseas). SFPA’s European consultant Charles Trevor, based in London, took the opportunity to improve the level of knowledge about American softwood species, grades and sizes among Indian visitors to the stand. Wood samples were a useful aid in explaining the differences. “We are positive that this show offers us a strategic platform from which we can interact with our intended target audience, and enable us to share more knowledge on the wide array of American softwood species and their significant potential for a range of applications,” Charles noted.

Manav Sheth, who is based in Mumbai and works as a consultant to American Softwoods, was present in the exhibit throughout the show and was extremely useful in helping with inquiries from Indian visitors, especially those who spoke Hindi. Two SFPA brochures in Hindi (Southern Pine Lumber Export Grades and the Guide to American Softwood Species) were available at the show, as well as the full range of English language AMSO publications. These were well received by visitors and will be an asset in AMSO’s continuing promotional work in India.

A considerable amount of press coverage in Indian trade magazines was achieved with a single AMSO press release. The Indian trade press is hungry for news, especially about wood and wood products from abroad.
